Wooden Easter Egg
Pisanka
Eggs have long been symbols of rebirth and fertility, and the Polish nation has made decorating them an art form. Decorated eggs were taken out into the fields as the grains were sown in order to bring life back into the warming soil. A bowl of decorated eggs was also kept in the homes at all times, to ensure good health and prosperity. These traditional folk "pisanki" are made of wood and intricately hand-painted with shiny designs using both colored and metallic paints. Used for the "święconka" basket on Holy Saturday and also to adorn the Easter table. Also perfect for Easter egg hunts! 2.5" long by 1.5" wide, assorted designs. Weight 1.5 oz.
